CRC/HDMI Control Of Kodi

Please can anyone tell me whether the Kodi package installed with Zorin can be controlled using CRC commands from a TV HDMI input? I know both Kodi and my hardware supports this, but I have no experience of running Kodi on a desktop OS.

I am reluctant to install Zorin just to test this.

I can't answer this but am now dubious about Kodi as it allowed some piracy add-ons in the past.
