Touchscreen; Gnome 3 or Unity?

I recently acquired a Panasonic Toughbook CF-18 at low cost that I'd like to set up as my Shop notebook for use in diagnostic software and general web browsing within the garage (looking up torque values, specs, parts, etc.)
It is a touchscreen (Stylus inc.) machine which helps when you got greasy mits.
I am told that Gnome 3 can handle it reasonably well and read that Unity is better for it. Any suggestions? Will it be an issue if the device is too hold to handle Gnome 3?
The notebook is 1.2gz, 1024megs Ram.

Good article here:

Looks like Debian or Debian based distros such as AntiX or SolydX MIGHT work. ;) :D

Gnome is noted to be a resource hog but not sure about Unity.

Mmmm, just read that xfce is not too good for touch screen. Just downloading to see if I can get this to run on a 512 Mb RAM powered 32-bit Notebook:

Ah, that's the same article I read before posting. I always like a second opinion...

I admit, I am liking the reviews on AntiX. AntiX has several different window Managers and of course, me being me... I like fluxbox.
I have never liked xfce much, don't ask me why. I would prefer to avoid Gnome, admittedly. I have heard nothing but good things about Unity, but I have no experience with it. Ubuntu decided to give it the axe and go back to gnome for some reason...

I think it was because Unity meant the panel being on the left side? :D
