Hello all,
first post to Zorin forum. I've been working on a couple of keyboard layouts to make transition from macOS easier, see https://github.com/bjohas/Ubuntu-keyboard-map-like-OS-X (which also provides rationale). I am hoping that somebody on the forum will find this interesting, and has some xkb skills to help get this to the next level.
The issue is that the layouts work find with setxkbmap, but they don't work in the GUI. I suspect this is because xkb is not very user-extensible, and this might need a recompile of xkb plus submission upstream. However, I could be wrong.
If I had this solved, the upshot of this would be a keyboard map that helps with transition from macOS - the reason I built the maps (and spent hours trying to figure out xmodmap, xkb and xdotool) was because I couldn't find any settings. A lot of the time, a 'macOS'-like Linux installation is more about the overall design, rather than some of the thorny usability issues.
I would love the keyboard maps to be part of xkb/Linux properly, but while I've been able to tinker, I need help to make the xkb map working properly.
Is anybody with xkb skills interested in helping out?
