No Sound Doom 3 native [Solved]

Hi,

I've been trying to play on Doom 3 from the official .run setup, everything installed perfectly fine but I can't get the sound to work on Zorin OS when I tried it with Ubuntu 19.10 the sound worked but not with Zorin and apparently according to the terminal output it claims I'm missing /dev/dsp

I've tried a number of tricks which others posted on the ubuntuforums.org website and at linuxquestions but it still complains about the /dev/dsp being missing on 15.1 is it possible I could have some help with this one, please? I've tried also launching the game under sudo to see if it worked but I still don't get any sound and I've also checked pavucontrol and everything seems to be working fine and set as output etc. Any help would be appreciated! The file which I had downloaded is from the Arch User Repository under doom3-bin which their link seems to be the only link online that I could get hold of the official setup for the linux version.

Could it be this issue?:

The sound engine will only output 44.1KHz. This indicates that your sound processing cannot do this and suggests 48KHz instead. Tried all of that and it still doesn't work, out of interest do you on your system have /dev/dsp which maybe I could use?? All I probably need is that particular file in order to get sound on that game to work.

I will check, but my sound issues are quite unique.

1. I didn't want HDMI sound, onboard or on graphics card for Sound

2. I use VGA connection to prevent this.

3. I have had to 'block' both the onboard HDMI and the nVidia HDMI in order to get my SoundBlaster 5.1 Surround Sound Card to work - which works every alternate boot!

Have you tried the above? It's function is to reroute the command through pulseaudio.

Thanks for providing the link to the manpage of padsp it led me into the right direction. Basically, all I had to do after doing padsp -D /usr/local/bin/doom3 - was to install the following sudo apt-get install libasound2:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386 on 64-bit Zorin OS 15.1 and guess what the game now works with sound as a normal application without the padsp command being issued. I'm happy now since I can now play on my Doom 3 game and its expansion pack on Zorin OS. Thank you both for the help!
