I was prompted to do an update this morning, and I strongly suspect it has affected my Thunderbird settings, though I can't see quite 'what'. Is it possible to roll back the update ?

The file
/var/lib/dpkg/info/
should show what was installed during the update.
Or try
/var/log/apt/history.log
Look for the day of the update and there you have a list of what was installed. You can then remove the offending installations.
