[RESOLVED] Where is the system tray in Zorin OS 15.1 Core?

Am I missing something really obvious? Why do I not have a system tray on a fresh Zorin OS 15.1 Core (gnome 3) installation?

For example, if I run Skype (non-snap package), or Zoom, or discord, or Slack I do not see the tray icon anywhere...

Thanks!

Hi, This is a known Gnome 3 bug - If you install Cinnamon DE or be brave and install KDE (Plasma) they will show in the System Tray. ;) :D

Thanks for the info @Swarfendor437! Would you by chance have a link to the bug or any additional info? Has this bug been fixed in later releases of Gnome 3?

Not an unfixed bug! Somehow one of the zorin packages got messed up and I was able to fix it by purging gnome-shell-extension-zorin-appindicator

Code:
sudo apt purge gnome-shell-extension-zorin-appindicator

...which removed a number of other zorin packages which was fine, I just reinstalled all of the purged zorin packages

Code:
sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-zorin-appindicator gnome-shell-extensions-zorin-desktop zorin-appearance-layouts-shell-core zorin-desktop-session zorin-os-desktop

and now the system tray/indicator icons are there after a quick reboot!

yep working great. Also apparently this is an issue in 15.2 as I didn't realize I was running 15.2 already... Might have been caused by the upgrade from 15.1 to 15.2 via apt-get dist-upgrade...

Is your Software Updater pointing to Main Server (as it should) instead of your country's locale? (which it shouldn't), For updates to get installed smoothly, ensure updater is pointing to Main Server for updates. ;) :D
