Setup touch screen support?

I'm wondering if anyone wants to hold my hand to setup touchscreen on this convertible laptop? I have no idea where to even begin and you should assume I know how to do almost nothing if you're willing to assist. I'm fine without touch on this system. However, I would like my 5 year old grandson to be able to use it without a mouse on some homework pages. Even a little push start in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. TIA

To see what you'd be helping with, here is a link to a hardware probe on this system https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=0277194797

I would advise that you first install Synaptic Package manager from the Software link in the menu. Launch it once installed (you will need to provide your login password to enable this as you need 'root' rights to add any new application/package) and search for 'touch screen' without the quotes:

go for the highlighted item in the screenshot and the package two below it, then the configuration files shown at the bottom of the window.

Keep us posted - no guarantees! ;) :D

I've followed your posted steps. No issues doing so. Reboot and no changes that I see.

Have you changed appearance to the one that is set for tablets? ;) :D

Page 27 unofficial manual that I authored. Menu | Settings | Appearance | Zorin Appearance - layout is the one on the right for tablets. Also see what happens when you turn Accessibility on and choose onscreen keyboard?

I've PM'd AZorin for a definitive answer to your issue. ;) :D

I've tried the different appearance settings. No touch.
It seems to me that the hardware for the touchscreen isn't being detected at all or setup correctly. From what little I've found on my own basically Zorin or Ubuntu should just work ootb with touch screens but this little thing is giving me hassles. I first had to deal with the rotation sensor being upside down. I fixed that by locking it and then only had to log in upside down  Then I removed the iio-sensor-proxy so that fixed any rotation at all which is fine with me.
Now if I can find what all I need to check to get the touch screen to be found I will be in love with this little pc. I'm loving Zorin OS even if I don't figure out this touch stuff because it will be just an added convenience. Thanks for the help so far.

edit...forgot to mention the onscreen keyboard works with the mouse but touches just aren't recognized at all.

Most of the steps were ok but on the last I get this error...

I've found this but of course have no idea how to "patch the kernel"...

I looked at a different package but with similar errors:

https://github.com/cryptomator/cryptomator/issues/671

It looks like Ubuntu is moving to Snap packages - which means goodbye from me if this filters down to Zorin. I tried Makulu flash recently and to install a snap package from the software centre did not work as it stated I needed a freedesktop.org account ( =Plink!/opendekstop.org/gnome-look.org). I tried to remove snap.daemon from Makulu flash whereupon it would take the whole system with it. If this is the future I will eventually ditch and go to a different distribution! :x It's another example of Corporates fixing what ain't broke! Thanks for nothing Canonical!
