Gaining permission for 2nd internal HDD

I have installed a new 2tb HDD into my Linux computer. I have formatted the HDD, put a partition on it using Gpart and mounted it. The point on this HDD was to store all my photos on. However, when I try to move the photo files from a usb stick to the hdd (or even try to create a file) it states I do not have permission. I have watched numerous YouTube videos but most of these suggest using gksu command to get permission via root. Unfortunately gksu is no longer available. Can anyone help me gain permission on this new HDD? The simpler the better as I'm new to Linux.

It might be simpler to just format the drive as an ntfs one - Zorin and most modern Linux distributions can read and write to NTFS. ;) :D
