A very, very new newbie would welcome a set of simple instructions on how to download the manual.

Hello and welcome! Go to the link of your choice (the pdf is 72 Mb the ODT (LibreOffice Doc) is 40 odd Mb). Just click on your preferred link from this thread:

And when the web page opens click on Download. The pdf one gives you a preview but it is like any other pdf where you click on the down arrow to download in the pdf window.
