Try this.

First install the latest java plugin for firefox like follows:
Download the self extracting file: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp?locale=en
and follow the instructions http://java.com/en/download/help/linux_ ... extracting and http://java.com/en/download/help/linux_ ... xml#enable
(It's not dificult and since I managed to do it, everyone can... :D )

Then open firefox, go to youtube and open the specific video that you want to download.

When the video starts playing, go to the address bar and add the word "keep" just before the word "youtube".

Example: http://www.keepyoutube.com/watch?v=AkuuX9dYfz0
and hit enter.

A new website will open (called keep-tube). A pop-up will appear (saying something about java security), tick the box that says "always trust this webpage" and then click "run". (the next time, this pop-up window will not appear).

As soon as you do this, scroll down just before the bottom of the page and you will see the download options. i.e. choose what will be the type of the download file - flv or mp4 or HD etc.
Click on an option, a pop-up window will open, choose "save" and your download will start.

It is very easy. I have just tried it many times and works like a charm.

Thanks for the suggestion though. :)

Hi swarf,

take a look here (FAQ & Manual):

http://www.downloadhelper.net/

I don't have a problem with it, it does take a little getting used too though!!.

G'day,

I find this problem interesting as in the last 48 hours I've downloaded several videos from YouTube using Zorin 5, Fire Fox 10.0.2 with the Flash Video Downloader YouTube Downloader 3.4.7 - no troubles at all for me. My copy of Zorin is also as up to date as the package manager will get it.

All very interesting issues here, mate.

Regards,

Ernest

My mistake for including pointing to an 'unstable' ppa of Kazam - no-one else to blame. It is no big deal as now I have my new 2TB Buffalo external drive I will just simply back up my Zorin 5 and reinstall - but not this weekend! It still functions as well as it ever did and I use it more than the other OS's on this crate. It's Bonzer! (Did I spell that right?).

G'day mate,

alls well that end's well - looks like another issue that needs the RESOLVED addition to the title.

I try to get involved with oddities like this as it can help me with my troubleshooting skills.
