Zoom

My Drs. say, and I see a lot of people using, Zoom for telemedicine. I got a link to go to Zoom's website. They have many versions for Linux, and 2 for Ubuntu. When I go to their website there is a link to download the Zoom client for Ubuntu either for version 14.04+ or 12.04. Which client do I want to download for Zoom for Zorin 15.2 Ultimate?
Thanks,
Snyde

That guide should get you sorted out quick and easy with a few terminal commands.

Swarfendor will probably post soon mentioning that Zoom is best avoided and jitsi is better.

I agree with him 100%.

Sadly, Doctors and Schools and everyone else DEMANDS it...
Ignorance and complacency run rampant.

Well, I'll use Jitsi then. I had no idea about this. If you can use either one of those and Jitsi is recommended, I'll use that. How do I get it?
Thanks,

The problem is, the other user would need to agree to use jitsi, too.
Most will want to stick with zoom because... it is what everyone is using. Kind of like Microsoft.

I see. I'd better stick with Zoom then. These Drs. are smart, but not THIS kind of smart. I'll have to use Zoom if I'm gonna telemedicine with them. How do I install Zoom in Zorin 15.2 Ultimate, any idea?
Thanks,

Zoom lied from day one that it had E2E (End to End Encryption). You would be better with Open Source https://meet.jit.si - it's what I use to communicate with a colleague at work whilst working from home. You don't need any install for it to work just a browser that supports it like Chrome, Chromium, Waterfox, Brave Browser. Once bitten by sharksters I never touch them again! Doctors are the least smattest people when it comes to IT! ;) :D

I was told by Aravisian that in order to use jitsi that it had to be used by me and the doctors that I want to telecommunicate with! If this IS the case, I can't use it, because I'm sure they're all using Zoom and Winblows and I can almost guarantee that they won't switch! They want it easy, and they don't care about any security, or other issues.
I have Brave browser installed on this laptop, how do I use jit.si on it?

It is so easy to use. For example you could create in your browser: https://meet.jit.si/snydley - the app runs entirely in the browser, no sotware to install unless you were runing a jitsi server which is a different kettle of fish altogether!.
It will ask permission to use your camera and microphone. Then add a password for added security - e.g., IWishDoctorsWereSmarterAndNotUseZoom - you just share that with your other party and they can join you - it's not rocket science! ;) :D

Post-Script - if my GP (General Practitioner of Medicine) asked me to use Zoom I'd tell them politely to place it where the Sun don't shine! ;) - as I would my place of work! :o

I am fine with being wrong- But I think Snyde and I both could use clairifcation.
Are you saying that Snyde can use jitsi to connect to the Docs Office using Zoom or are you saying that Snyde can invite his Doctor to teleconference using Jitsi, no zoom?

Honestly, if it is the latter, I think it is worth a shot and try inviting the doc and if the doc refuses, then use Zoom.

Hi snydley100!
As Zorin OS 15 is based on Ubuntu 18.04, you should be able to download and install the "Ubuntu 14.04+" version of Zoom from here: https://zoom.us/download
Afterwards, open the Files app and navigate to the Downloads folder.
From here, double-click on the zoom ".deb" file and click the "Install" button in the window that appears.
You should now be able to open the Zorin menu and launch Zoom from there.

Interestingly there is an item about installing Zoom on ZorinOS within the New (September 2020) Zorin Forum here:
https://forum.zorin.com/t/how-to-install-zoom/67

Unless I missed something, there is no way yet to register as Member on the new forum.

The new forum hasn't fully launched just yet as we are still finalising some technical details. As a result, public user registrations haven't been enabled at the moment.

Stay tuned here and to our blog (https://blog.zorin.com/) for an announcement about the new forum very soon.
