RetroArch Core Downloads Not Working

So I installed RetroArch from the software center, but none of the cores will download, even after granting read/write to the ~/.config/retroarch/cores folder. Any ideas?

No, my RetroArch is installed just fine, it runs, but when I goto download cores in the app it just shows the core downloading infinitely, and eventually times out.

This seems like a write permissions issue as stated here: https://docs.libretro.com/guides/change ... ies/#cores

Of course there are like 5 different retroarch.cfg files in 5 different folders, but they all appear to point to the same folder which I already gave full read/write permissions to.
