TPS01 ?

betov

Tue Feb 28, 2012 1:45:26 pm

Since a couple of days, the start up comes with a terminal saying:

mename@mename-TPS01:~§

Not a big deal, but I never had anything in the "Start Up Applications" but "Cairo-Clock". Any idea about what TPS01 is ?

An happy user who doesn't long for the next DE.

Hi,

boot into recovery menu and run "dpkg" see if that solves the problem, I honestly don't know what it means!!.

What PC specs do you have??.

Here is a bug report:

https://lists.launchpad.net/simple-scan ... 00159.html

Do you have a Foxconn TPS01 motherboard??.

Sorry, Wolfman, i can't seem to find the mother board type. Foxconn, yes. But I can't find the mother board specified, neither on the bill nor on the installation sheet...

This is a recent low cost Ubuntu PC:

Running dpkg in recovery mode: No cue about where and when to type the command in. Sorry again...

Hi betov,

you can find "dpkg" when you boot into recovery mode, it is one down in the list from your normal Zorin Ubuntu which is at the very top of the list.

Select dpkg and run it, please see how to:

and/or:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1617

The link about the motherboard in my previous post; suggests a bug!!.

Oh yes, I got a dpkg option and run it... but no change at reboot. I just had the same "mename@mename-TPS01:~§" ... in text mode from recovery (after rebuilding possibly broken packets).

Thanks. I think I will survive. 8-)

Have you tried checking in system>preferences>startup applications to see if there is something relating to the TPS01?

betov

Wed Feb 29, 2012 11:36:17 am

Yes, Madvinegar, this was the very first thing I looked at. I just took a second look to search for something that could be some check of the mother board, but nope (that I could see).

The cue pointing to some new bug seems to be the point, as i have run ZorinOS without this terminal coming up for several weeks. In fact, since the oncoming of Unity, that made me run away from Ubuntu definitively. You know... Unity... the ergonomic terrorism that terrorised me. :o

Have you searched in the /etc/modules or in /user/bin to see if there is any TPS01 module/application loading?

The only file with "TPS01" inside, I have in my Files System, is: log.wb-Me-name-tps01

... in var/log/samba. This is a text file saying:

[2012/01/29 17:44:23.816499, 0] winbindd/winbindd.c:195(winbindd_sig_term_handler)
Got sig[15] terminate (is_parent=0)

Got sig[15] terminate (is_parent=0)

....and so on, five pages long. "2012/01/29", from the very first line, seems to me to possibly be the date when I installed ZorinOS.

After the pop-up, if you do a
Code:
dmesg
in terminal, what do you get?

Please post the result within [code*][/code*] (without the asterisk*).

Try to find any part that includes TPS01 or anything connected to it... You can copy and paste all the results in a word document and use key words with "find".

The only lines figuring a "TPS01" are the two last ones saying the same thing as usual, Madvinegar:
