Hi,

A big fan of your product.

However, our staff would like to put their existing Telstra sim into the back of the Toshiba NB500.

While Zorin will let you setup the mobile broadband manager, it never connects.

How can I know,

1. That I actually have the driver in place for it.
2. Where would I manually connect / disconnect
3. Toshiba say that an Ericsson 3G Driver (for 3G model only) is required. (as usual there is not linux driver which makes this whole process difficult....
4. As Zorin is based on ubuntu is there any way that I can get a more recent kernel on it than 3.0.0 15 generic ?

Thank you.

Hi Wolfman,

Thank you very much for your reply.

It turns out that Toshiba have a false plate in some of their NB500 models. (Rather annoying)

I have contacted Toshiba and they have advised me that not all models actually have the card but the plastic case allows for a sim card and the pins are sitting there ?

Back to the actual driver, kernel 3.0.0 15 has kernel model support, the onboard 3g broadband works.

Looked into the wiki part and after running sudo /usr/sbin/update-usbids and sudo lsusb

I got the following information

Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04f2:b1d6 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0930:1314 Toshiba Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Not really much help when the toshiba that does not have the working sim slot returns the same results.

Thank you

What can we do to get Toshiba to make linux drivers...
