Windows XP wont boot...

Hi, I recently installed Zorin on my desktop to have a dual boot with Windows XP, after I completed my installation, my Zorin works fine when I chose in the boot menu but when I chose XP it will just return to the same menu selection.

Have you tried booting into the winXP CD and selecting the recovery console?

Hi,

try booting into Zorin and open a terminal and type:

sudo update-grub

This may solve the problem for you, if you use the Windows CD, it will erase GRUB completely!!.

Wolfman I think that the grub menu must be working fine since 1) he can boot to zorin without any problem and 2) there is an XP option in the grub menu.

The problem is that he cannot boot into XP.

So this means that there must be a problem with the boot files of winXP. And this can be fixed by using the XP CD and the recovery console.

I agree with you that after running the XP CD the grub menu may be erased, but I think that the correct order would be for him to repair first the boot of XP and then to log in through a live CD of Zorin and re-instate the grub menu.

At least this is my understanding. What do you think?

yes we are both thinking along the same lines but it may be that GRUB has caused tthe problem in the first place and may be needed to be re-installed to correct the problem!!.

True. And thinking of it, it's a very easy proccess just to re-install the grub menu first and test if that fixed the problem (before messing with the XP Cd etc.). :)
