Still having trouble with sound in zorin using pidgin getting a lot of feed back when recieving the other persons voice thats if I get any reception on in coming sound. On the other hand skype works like a dream. Issue number two is the volume icon no longer controls the volume how do I fix this as now I have to do it all through pulseadio volume control which is a pain. Should only need to use pulseadio volume control for setup.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks Dai

Hello Dai.

ALL start's with support for you media issues, and all ends there.

it is easy to work with alsa+pulse on the same system.
where the issues are?
with the base Multimedia support for the players and the working audio/video on the net.

Here I will send you few words to search under synaptic.
You will find alot of missing packages installed there in Advanced.
So for now yes you have issue with the support with alsa.

SO....here is the list , see what you will find under the world. ;)

w32codecs
ffmpeg
avi files
mpg
mpeg
jpeg
xmms
gnomealsamixer
gstreamer
webcam
usb
theora
lame
iso
convert
compress
firmware
burn
audio
video

well that list is the list that you will find any packages that you need to support your Sunds/Server.

So all the best, God bless ,and good luck with the fixing. :D ;)

where are the other guys they were helpful. I have most of the codecs installed they are not the issue the issue is sound setting issue. I have no control over the sound from the icon in the system tray and as already stated in a previous post the sound settings on th esystem tray icon is greyed out.

The only control I have of sound is through pulseadio volume contol. Not an ideal solution so unless you have some advice that actually helps me then I'm all ears.

Just to point out it is RC which means Release Candidate - which means there could be some issues - might affect some more than others - if you see a release that says 'Final' then you know there should be very few if no bugs at all.

yep zorin 6 lxde version. Apart from the sound nice little distro. I prefer lxde to xfce used to like gnome used to being the optimum there and unity well they should run it as test for about two years to get it right before adopting it as default. My little rant over. wel I just hope they can get the sound sorted over the next few weeks. In the mean time I'd appreciate some help getting this sound icon working again.

Open terminal and write

Code:
gstreamer-properties

From the first tab, experiment with the options (change from pusle audio to alsa etc) and see what works better.
Default output is for sound, default input is for mic.

Gstreamer-properties not installed using pulse. sort of got it set to a point but what I have noticed is that it gets set to a default as soon as you shut down and come back again.

Hi,

install the packages:

Restart your PC and open the Pulse Audio Manager and check the settings!!.
