I actually just want to know how to check that the firewall is on with basic settings. I did manage to find out that ufw is just the front end (evidently having to click unlock and have the Enabled box checked is a little misleading?) and while one thread somewhere did mention iptables -L it didn't explain anything about what you're looking at. Isn't there some specific piece of info in there that would just confirm it is enabled and such? Sorry I'm so challenged, been using Windows for years you know - I figure here one can be excused for that..
