I looked up a solution for this at
WineHQThere was some advice to rename the Internet Explorer folder within Wine, then do some kind of update using Winetricks, then delete the new folder and re-rename the folder back, etc. It was very confusing and didn't do much for me.
It turns out that there is a Windows Registry switch that tells SketchUp to use hardware acceleration, or some such. In any case you use Winetricks, which is under the Wine section of the Main Menu, and open the Registry Editor (regedit?).
Change the following key in the Wine registry:
HKEY_USERS/S-1-5-4/Software/Google/SketchUp8/GLConfig/Display HW_OK = 1
That is, navigate down the registry to
HKEY_USERS
/S-1-5-4
/Software
/Google
/SketchUp8
/GLConfig/
Find the entry called "Display HW_OK", or maybe you go to the ----/Display/ area, and find the HW_OK entry. In any case, double-click on it, and change the numerical value from "0" to "1".
Save your registry, then you probably need to reboot.
Now SketchUp will work. It may look a bit strange, in that the fonts are a bit different. It may also not be able to directly import models from the 3D Warehouse. Still, you can use it pretty well.
