Help with Nvidia driver

doubledragon5

Thu May 24, 2012 1:10:15 pm

Hi I'm new to the whole linux experience, and currently have Zorin 5.2 installed.. My question is, under additional drivers it says my nvidia driver is active, but not in use.. How do you actually get the driver to work? what does not in use mean? Thanks

Would you like to post the result of
Code:
lspci -nn
just to see the exact model and ID of your card?

Swarf, doubledragon5 says that the driver in additional drivers is activated, but not in use.

My suggestion would be to try out the new Zorin6 which wil be based in Kernel 3.2.0-x and hopefully your card will be detected and enabled out of the box. Nvidia has a very good relationship with linux and stays always up to date.

You can download and create a live CD or USB of the new zorin 6 RC just to try it out before the final release is formally ready for download.

I am personally waiting for Zorin 6 core to be released before proceeding in any installations as my GPU is not detected and fully used in zorin 5.2 (the 3d effects do not work), but with kernel 3.2.0-x everything works out of the box!

Ya just their recommended driver which is not current, and is activated. I don't understand how it is activated but not in use...

swarfendor437 wrote:That 'activated but not in use' is the same issue with some users with Broadcom wifi chipsets - it recognises it is Broadcom but assigns the wrong driver - from what I could tell from scouring the internet I think 10.10 was the version of Ubuntu it worked with - will have another delve and get back here - but not tonight!

I just downloaded it and going to try it out probably next week after I move into my new place...
