Greetings,

I have Zorin OS 5.2 installed and mostly working.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L55 Laptop, 4 gig ram and installed on 300 gig partition.

I have sound from the speakers and it is louder than with Windows 7.
But, I don't have any sound from the headphones.

Also, I haven't found the terminal.

Thanks for any help,

M E

Try this for the headphones: Go to the sound settings and in the output tab change "speakers" to "headphones".

Terminal is located: applications> accessories >terminal

Thanks madvinegar,

I am very new to Linux and Zorin, having just gotten it installed this morning...

I have spent the day trying to learn Zorin.

I know, it will probably take a week or so, but I'm tired having to reinstall microcrap every month.

I have searches for sound settings and can't find it.

Thanks for the help,

M E

Either go from the menu > control center > sound (in hardware list).

or

left-click the sound (speaker) icon on the right of your panel bar and from the list select "sound settings".

Thanks,

I had already tried everything here.

It may need a different driver. I will pursue this route. I just have to find how to check drivers.

I don't understand why plugging into the jack doesn't turn off the speakers and sound come out of the headphone.

Thanks,

M E

Make sure that the jack is inserted/pressed all the way in or play a little with it (a little out or a little in) to see if you get sound.
Also try with a different set of headphones.
I had tried 2-3 different sets of headphones in my wife's acer laptop with zorin 5.2 in it. I thought that I had a problem as well however one headphone set was working just fine. It was not a problem of zorin. Just the specific set of headphones had a good "jack".

This is a Linux kernel problem, so says several post I found.
Several people had no problems until the update of the kernel.

I tried 3 headphones that all work in windows.

I get up between 5 & 6 AM and don't want to disturb my wife until she gets up at 7:30.
I guess I will not play sound until she gets up.

I have no intentions of going back to micro-crap.

Thanks,

M E

Could you also download from ubuntu software center the "pulse audio volume control" and try some of the input/output settings in there?
