Wellll. Got new Netgear WNA1100 usb. Now no wireless. Got no wire either..have to use this..So got compat-wireless-2010-05-10 driver but the terminal says no such file or dir. So be on W/7 till figure this out...got 3 friends on Zorin same problem...Netgear USB is updated to today's finest standards and very reliable and great range. Can we get this to work? Sorry but I've spent three days looking and coding, no luck..ps. Atheros chipware

I think I have the same netgear USB on one of my laptops in the office. If that is the case, I will tell you tomorrow which windows drivers to use with ndiswrapper to get it working.

Thanks, I, in my research, have a collection of different drivers from which to choose. I been through a few distros with too much SW and still won't hook..So I figures Zorin is simple, yet complete so we're gonna hang here and work on it. I beleive I already have the W000/XP driver installed.. New to wireless issues so what after install? LOL two years as Linux User on Ethernet should have paid attention. My lap works fine with Maverick, but it's Intel..Sorry taking up space, lol..We be Zorin ya later.

I have the Windows NG1100 driver file. No inf. if I open it in Zorin but I'll try looking here(w/7). Also my router dosen't respond to the WWD click, but it keeps popping up to connect. Thanks for the insight I'm working on it!!

Hi. Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. Indeed I have the wna1100.
I am attaching a rapidshare link which you can use to download the files you need. After you download the compressed file in one of your folders (i.e. in your Downloads file) unzip it (extract it). I have used 7zip to zip it which is a free program.

https://rapidshare.com/files/2271634639 ... drivers.7z

Then go to "windows wireless drivers", use the "browse" to navigate to your Downloads folder, open the "wnaxp2000-wna1100 drivers" file that you have extracted and select the netathuw.inf file.
Hopefully it should work.
Hope you see this post soon and you download the file as soon as possible because I do not know until when rapidhshare will be keeping it uploaded.

Got the driver OK, went through the WWD process. No luck yet. Wont even show the card to log in. I've gone through 10.04 clear up to 12.10 with no luck... Evidently not doing something right. I had Zorin Core 5 on a 16G flash drive I installed with LiLi USB creator and that worked with this card. So I'm gonna stick with Zorin till I figure it out or they come up with Linux firmware. I think their working on it. It's very frustrating. Been through lot's of Ubuntu Forums and drivers. Gotta be missing something. Guess I'll spend more money on a card that works.

swarfendor437 wrote:Here is another possible (no guarantee!) workaround. If you have the Windows setup disk, try installing the package into Wine. After install using Wine (not PlayOnLinux!) go to your home folder and 'show hidden files'. Next look for your .wine folder - then the following path: drive_c | windows | inf.
Alternatively, drive_c | windows | system32 | drivers
You could also try installing wicd too to see if you get any joy with that.

Really, really appreciate your time...Good idea, got disc. I mentioned got the NG1100 windows file . hidden files! try that..

Hartford I managed to install Zorin 6 on a laptop. Indeed there is a problem with the ndiswrapper. The version that is installed with zorin 6 is too old.
You have to install the latest version. I had trouble making a netgear PCMCIA work, and as soon as I installed the latest ndiswrapper version, it worked flawlessly.

Follow my guide here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2274&p=9369#p9369
Use the XP inf file that you will find in your drivers CD.

Cool man! We gonna try that. Really want to run Zorin. Been running Ultimate Edition(s), and their related OZ programs..really good guys (and girls) but just don't need all the programs involved. I got a feeling this just might work. Spent today with a compat-wireless driver-make install, took about 10 min to 'terminal' through it. Was looking good but then didn''t show up as "wireless network avaliable."on the menu. Argggggh! Should just get an internal card that works but Netgear is real popular here, IP has Netgear modems now and they supply USB card with them. I'd like to get this figured out so I can get my Linux friends working. Luckily have all the drivers down on W/7part. and can move em over. Thanks again for your fellows time. Starting to feel at home already. I'd run wire but am too far from the modem. In office in garage and run camper also. Too much $$ for second line. So. "get-er-done" hartford!

Sorry no luck, won't come up with the pass log in. Won't even show my modem (wireless id) in network menu. I'm missing something or doing something wrong. Going over to netgear site and look around. Argggg. I'll be back sometime let everyone know if found anything. Got Linux driver there before (still in files) and installed the only one that would run..said somrthing about modprobe "name of module" but don't know what it wants...Sure takin up space...I am. Oh yea did the edit thing configured wireless. useless.

Monday good. About to give up..Loaded the ndiswrapper latest, loaded Atheros driver from netgear site. modprobe this and that...don't think we're gonna replace windows like this...loaded WWD's, looked through the modprobe.d files couldn;t do anything there..or should say don'tknow what to blacklist or whatever..If nothing else goin to get pci card that will work.
Sorry to put you all to all this thinking. I got a headache and punched the monitor a couple times..Acer, real tough. lol.

I tried today to make wna1100 work on my Zorin 6 ultimate computer.

I just plugged it in, and it worked in seconds out of the box. I connected to my office network, and in fact, this is the internet connection I am using right now through the wna1100.

Just to be 100% sure that we are talking about the same USB stick, the result from lsusb is:

Code:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0846:9030 NetGear, Inc. WNA1100 Wireless-N 150 [Atheros AR9271]

Check if you have the same.
I did not need to install any driver through ndiswrapper or do anything else for all that matters. I just plugged it in.

This means that you are either doing something wrong, or the installation is not properly done, or you are not talking about Zorin 6 with kernel 3.2.0-25.

Delete everything that you have installed for wna1100 (i.e. the drivers for ndiswrapper etc), clean your system from any broken packages
Code:
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get autoremove

update your system
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

restart and try plugging in the usb stick again.

I don't know? Gave up. Yes to all questions. Same stick, same kernel, Put em in took em out )drivers(. Have Ndiswrapper latest. Removed WWD's, installed 'stock' drivers from Netgear Source. modprobed the correct one etc. Funny. it works on the Zorin I have on flash drive. Immediately. So I used LiLi to install it and they use VirtualBox as base for boot etc. So something in their kernel set works. Investigating that also. Unable to update, no internet, eh? Reinstalled even, (really want Zorin, lol) no luck. Need to blacklist but that seems to be a chore. Doin that next. I called Netgear buddy and she's trying Zorin to see what's up. (Was tech and call for hardware help). I'm a mechanix not a programmer. Another buddy of mine says Ubuntu won't work on N band. More confusion. Blacklist?? Root?? Walk me through it and I'll leave you alone..Think that might help. And a clean up, yes, this morning. You guys got a ThankYou button? Thank all of you, much! If it works for you that well, I have hope. CLEAN!

Plug in the netgear usb, open terminal and write:

Code:
sudo modprobe ath9k_htc

and give your password.

And see if that helps.

Done that, gonna unplug it, boot, plug it in, modprobe again, no luck, I quit. Same with every ubuntu distro. Exactly same c***. No work, just gonna leave it on that partition till something happens. If not I turn into a rage-in monster...don't need this.

Plug it in and please post the outcome of the following:

Code:

sudo lshw -c network
sudo rfkill list all
lsmod

Also:
Unplug the USB, open terminal and write
Code:
sudo dmesg -c

and then plug it back in and write
Code:
dmesg

and post the results.

Don't mean to be so neg. On my time, gonna work on this from the bottom up. With all the codes you-all given; I think I see how the driver/kernel association works. I'm gonna dump all ndiswrapper tentacles into the system and run clean drivers and see. Figure out how Virtual Box does it. Any way getting a stick from a wireless broadband provider that works with Linux...ye haaaaa! Mates your are a great, concerned crew, Zorin should be proud to be you.

Just out of curiosity I would like to see the results of the terminal commands I mention in my above post.

Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:57:44 pm

Ok I'll have to put it a graphics file cause can't paste linux in windows...I ran it on Ultimate 2.8 same results as Zorin. Got a 16G flash to move things around also. AStill gonna figure out how Virtual makes ether out of a wireless connection..if its open source...???. Used to program Windows back in the day and this frustrating..too much bloat in the mod/kernel sys think it cant find something..This is an old story. Feel kinda silly draggin it over to yiou guys..There's hundreds of posts on this..confusing and the fixes don't work for everyone..hardware??..Ok I'll get it to ya mate..

Took my box over to sisters and hooked to cable modem..on line with Zorin and able to find things in synaptic... see synaptic under compat-wireless..more help. Think we have some answers. Have plenty of wireless in this neighborhood to pick up on.. Will be back. No real information with those terminal moves...just that it knows the Netgear is there...pray.

Ok, thought I'd better get back on this...Solved! I'm an a$$ wipe! (sorry, vulgar American). Seeing as I'm "Excitable Boy", got all wound up and frustrated. After I calmed down and thought about it, ( you ain't gonna believe) Let's go over to the modem (351 ft. away) and see if I have the pass key right! Well seems I had left out a very important "Q" in the key. DUH! And should use capital letters, eh? Soon as that was remedied off I go to the internet. Netgear and all. No muss no fussies. So guys I apologize for the frustration. When you said it hooked right up at the office, well knew I was doing something wrong. This is posted on my Desk Acer with Zorin core 6. Off to better times. Also put in wireless card PCIe by Hilo Co. Also hooks even before I can log in...Marvelous..
Hope we still friends,,,,,LOL....
