Interested in the "restricted extras" left out for national possible laws. Are these the "Ubuntu Restricted" - but without the Unity stuff?

Hi,

check out the section about the "Medibuntu Repo", the restricted packages are already installed but you will need the extra repo for "non-free-codecs" and "libdvdcss2" etc!!.

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2061

If you need firmware for a DVB-T/S/C device; you need the package: "linux-firmware-nonfree".

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1661

You can install Unity if you want to, it is not installed by default!!.

Hi,

did you burn the ISO at the slowest possible speed, if you didn't you will get read/write errors on the disk!!.

Did you boot the live CD in "Safe graphics mode" ??.

Hi,

try this guide first:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2054

For Docky, right click on the 3 little lines by the trashcan (or on the anchor) and open the settings menu, you can make any changes there!!.

Hi Wolfman

Are you planing on releasing a Ultimate Version?

Deadly Ernest

G'day,

I know this is probably a silly question, but I have Zorin OS 5 Premium. Is there a page where it tells dumb ol' me what benefits I get from going from Core 5 to Core 6? Looking at the web site I can't find a clear list of them.

Edit to add: - Something else I just thought of, I spent a lot of time getting the system customised, especially Fire Fox and Thunderbird is there an easy way to carry these settings and the desktop settings over from 5 to 6?

regards,

Ernest

Question what video card are you using? Reason I ask is because I had issues were after burning almost 20 dvd's RC would not load. It would not even get passed the main screen.. After removing my GTX 550Ti and put back in my 9800FTX+ Nvidia card it loaded no problem..

after using zorin since 3 i have come to rely on its dependability and stability 5.2 was by far the best when i saw 6 was out i immediately downloaded and installed it ...i like its smoothness i like its layout but i have 2 complaints so far 1. it runs quite slow and takes a while to open programs and 2 i cant open folders with the mouse ...i have to click on the folder then press enter .... cant drag and drop ..... cant copy and paste ... its like im clicking on an empty space

I do not know the specs of your computer so I cannot comment about the speed. Could you please provide said specs?
However, the fact that you cannot open folders with the mouse is surely a problem.

Just to be sure, do the following:
Plug an ethernet cable on your PC/laptop to get internet (not through wifi).
Reboot and from grub menu select the recovery mode (usually 2nd option).
From the new menu that will open select "dpkg" and let it run.

This will update and upgrade your system plus will repair broken packages (if any).
So, try this first and let us know.

First of all did you do the "dpkg" thing I mention above?

Your laptop's specs are very good. I would not expect zorin 6 to run slowly in such a laptop.
How did you install Zorin? Was it through a live usb with persistent space? Have you tried the live USB in other laptops and made any changes before installing Zorin to your Acer laptop?

Was your ethernet card detected when you were in live mode (before installing)? If you don't know, boot up a live USB/CD and test it.
During installation, did you have an ethernet cable plugged in or you made all upgrades (during installation) through wifi?

Also, have you tried enabling the recomended (closed) ATI drivers from additional drivers to see if that fixes your problem when opening the folders?

i will try the live cd again brb

Hi RB,

did you burn the disk at the slowest possible speed??. If you didn't, you may well get read/write errors on the disk and this is another reason why your network card is not being recognised!!.

Sat Jun 30, 2012 3:09:17 pm

i burn everything at 2 speed simply because of the read errors i have also installed using usb pendrive i used linux to burn off and windows(sorry didnt mean to mention the W word) to burn off

note:
no linux distro has detected the network card not even zorin 3,4,or 5 its no biggy as the wireless works fine
thank you for all your time in helping me

i was thinking of getting a usb-network adapter just in case of wireless failure
