AWN without Indicator 3

Trench

Tue Jul 03, 2012 4:31:56 am

Is there anyway to get a wifi icon on AWN without using indicator 3? I tried Indicator but that was just blank and Notification Area had wifi properties but no icon.

It is because you do not have any internet connection. Plug an ethernet cable to your PC/laptop and try again.

Thank you. However my internet is connected and I am able to update everything except for the four items that I posted.

Oh sorry, I thought you only posted part of the error message.

Could you please open terminal and write
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

and post here the contents of the file?

To cut the long story short, in 4 of the lines there is a mixup. The lines below them have gone in the same sentence above and you need to get them down again because otherwise they create a conflict.
After you do the above, try again and let me know.

It's improving. Now it's down to...

Hi Trench,

what software sources are you using, you should try main, if you already are, try a different one and see if that helps:

Ok, I'm almost there and I really appreciate the help by the way. Now the problem I run into is I can't get the Notification Area icons to be just one row.

All I need is for the wifi icon to be the same size as the other icons and I'm all set.

Hi Trench,

have you tried the pixel settings in the AWN manager?. I honestly have no idea how to set the size of one icon!!.

The wifi icon is in the Notification Area applet and you're supposed to be able to change it from 2 rows to 1 but it never changes for me.

What about the indicator applet. Is that supposed to be blank?

I know this is an older post, but I was having the same issue. The funny thing is that with as many computers that I've installed Zorin on, it works sometimes, and sometimes not. I never knew what I did to get it to work, but I just did a fresh install of Zorin 6. The settings for AWN notification area in gconf-editor were not taking effect. I set the icon size to 500 so I knew if it was working or not. Unrelated, I wanted the DockBarX preferences, so I installed DockBarX:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dockbar-main/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install dockbarx

After that, my AWN dock somehow reset to default, with only Preferences applet and Task Manager. When I recreated the AWN dock the way that I wanted it, the notification area applet had icons so huge that it went off screen. I removed it, changed the settings in gconf-editor to icon size 100, re-added notification area - voila! Single row of icons in notification area, size 100. So somehow (at least this time), installing DockBarX fixed it for me. Not sure if this will work every time, but maybe worth a shot.
