Photoshop and Cubase in Zorin?

Photoshop and Cubase is the only reason i still use Windows as second system. As i understand, generally it is possible to make these software working in Zorin/Ubuntu, through the Wine. But i have two questions:

a) Can someone, who has been using these software under Wine, tell if there are some "complications" or not with running it under Linux? Would you suggest to leave Windows for these tasks?

b) If it works fine under Linux, how to install it?

Thank you!

Hi Rene,

I would go here and look at their database of apps:

http://www.winehq.org/

I don't use either of those apps under Linux so cannot help you further!!.

3 - 4 years ago i was running 'photoshop 7' w/ windows in mepis & mint - every feature i was used to working with worked 100%

However, versions above 7 were not @ 100% functional for me. I have heard differing opinions on this.

Since then I have learned to use Gimp to the level that I had been using photoshop. Both programs are very close in capabilities.

The most frustrating part is to re-learn the menu commands - most of them are different to access than photoshop.

but once you learn them, both programs are very similar.

I never use wine since most programs I was using with windows have a linux counterpart.

My internet computer is always single boot to linux.

Now for the music:

I was never able to get cubase fully working with wine starting from version 3

There is one DAW (EnergyXT) that has a Linux counterpart and works 100% without wine

There are a few Linux based music production distros out there but ...

IMO Linux still falls short for music production. @ about 70% functionality for me still and not easy to keep up w/ all the changes

Since my DAW of choice is PreSonus Studio One, my studio system needs to be windows.

Thanks, Gonz! Very informative!
Well... i think, i keep Windows, as a studio, especially for Cubase.
