[SOLVED] SSL Not Working?

I'm getting this message from Chrome for every website:

The identity of this website has not been verified.

Your connection to http://www.zoringroup.com (Current website) is not encrypted.

You have never visited this site before today.

I tried another browser, and it gave a similar message. This doesn't occur on other computers, so it isn't the network. All my wireless setting seem in check, I doubt I've gotten a rare Linux virus from average browsing, etc. Should I ignore it?
I attempted to upload a screenshot to Photobucket, but the upload speed kept dropping to zero. I'm not sure if they're having server problems or...

Hi Nick,

try installing the add-on "Browser Protect" in FireFox and see if the message comes up again. Browser protect prevents browser hijacking!!.

Do you have a firewall on??. Do you ever have problems with your internet connection in general??.

Also post the link so we can try it out but it does sound more like a security issue with your setup!!. :D

I'll try Firefox, but what link should I post?? Also, is it safe to back some things up? Is it possible for the malicious software to spread via usb?

Open synaptics, find the package "google-chrome-stable" and mark it for removal. Click apply to remove it.

Go to chrome website and download the latest chrome.deb (32 or 64 bit according to your system) and install it.

See if that helped.

The Chrome solution seemed to have stopped the "You've never been on this site before" message on some sites (Like Google), but https/http only comes on by default on some websites (Like Facebook, which I'm not logging into). I can add it in the address bar sometimes.

I'm not sure which link Wolf wants me to post, and should I install Firefox with Gnome support or anything else in its add-ons section of Ubuntu Software Center page?

Firewall is on, and my connection has never been like this before.

Photobucket still doesn't work and started telling me I don't have Flash.

Hi Nick,

yes, install FF and did you take a look at this thread about updating and fixing broken packages:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2247

Let us know if this helps, you should start by running "dpkg" in recovery mode!!.

Firefox gives the same message as Chrome, and the end message of dpkg was "No new packages, no upgraded packages, no removed packages," or something like that. It also showed quite a few "Failed to reach PPA" lines.

Hi Nick,

change your software sources download location to something else to what you currently have, then run "dpkg" again!!.

See the same thread for software sources.

I changed my settings to look like those in the sticky (Checked Pre-release, source code, and other options), and the only other respiratory I found was archive.ubuntu. Should I switch to that before restarting and running dpkg? Clicking "fix broken packages" in synaptics yielded no results. There are also stars next to all the packages listed now and a couple green checks.

I looked at my network connections under network tools and found 2 items "Listening." Also, what should a normal Zorin processes menu look like with most used memory at the top? I can't decide if any aren't suppose to be there.
.
I found some isolated reports of Chrome and Firefox removing the http prefix in the address bar and keeping https ranging from 2010 to a couple months ago. Why was http before all my urls 2 days ago? Have I just noticed that it's missing really late? Do you guys have http on non https sites in your address bars?

The package updates seemed to get rid of most of the lack of https and "You have never been on this site before" message.

Hi,

you still need to get your system fully updated before we go further, look at the update guide again and you will see this:

Changing download location:

If you are having a problem with the downloads, you can change the download location with:

Open Synaptic > Settings > Repositories > Download From > Choose a country and select best server, close the windows then reload and try updating again.

Did you follow that advice??.

Did you install the add-on "Browser Protect" in FireFox??.

At the moment on this website (Zorin Forum), I don't have http showing in the address bar!!.

Everything seems in order now. I hope that if it was malicious software, it was safely removed.

I switched to the Duke University Archive Respiratory, and many packages still failed to update, but it seems average.
Should I go back to the main server at some point?

Hi,

you can switch to any download server anytime you wish, it isn't a problem.

I will mark this as solved.
