Hi,

change your software sources download location to a different server:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2247

Where it say "Download From", change the location from what you currently are using and update again.

Both Synaptic and Ubuntu Software Centre fall over so how can I update the server location?

Hi,

try running these commands in a terminal then see if Synaptic works afterwards:

sudo dpkg --configre -a

followed by:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f

Even you get messages like the previous ones, continue!!!!!!!!!.

Check Synaptic out after doing that, try installing something.

(the -f behind the last word denotes the "force" command)

I tried using sudo dpkg --configure -a

followed by

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade --f -m

Still the same.

Hi,

did you add the --f -m after the command??, I don't know this command!!.

It should update with:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f

Hi Desh,

I don't deny that forcing is good/bad; but in this case; he changed the command completely somehow!!.

Using the -f part of the command should force any dependency problems he might be having!!.

Hi,

thanks for the heads up on that.

I suggest you change the download location as we spoke of before.

Open Synaptic > Settings > Repositories > Download from > Other: and change the location, select best server from a different place, then try updating again!!.

Hi,

you can try disabling that particular PPA, open Synaptic > Settings > Repositories > Other Software and look for that PPA in the list and take out the tick, click on reload and try updating again!!.

Did you change the download location??.

As I said previously Synaptic keeps falling over, however I went into the /var/lib/apt/list directory and deleted the offending PPAs. This allowed me to run Synaptic and update.

Yes, it is completely updated as far as I can see. Do you know what the jonoomph PPA is anyway?

Update:
I just rebooted and the display has set itself to 1024X768 and I can't change it!!

It has been fine up to now, it was the last update that screwed it up. I subscribe to the X-SWAT PPA so I always have the latest Nvidia driver

Hi,

open Synaptic and type "nvidia" in search, locate the "nvidia-current" package and mark it for re-installation, then restart your PC and see if you still have a problem with the graphics, you should have version 302.17 installed if you are using the x-swat PPA.

Yes, I did that but no joy. Maybe an reinstall is the best idea. I must say that I have Zorin 5.2 as well and I don't get any of these problems.
