Is this a PC monitor or a laptop monitor?

If it is a PC monitor, have you tried correcting the fitting of the desktop inside the monitor by using the monitor's adjust buttons?

Hi,

you can also look in the system settings manager at the hardware section then displays and look at the resolution settings there.

Have you fully updated your system:

So you are talking about a TV.
The top, bottom and sides being cut off is called "overscan", and is a feature of your TV. To fix it, simply disable it in your TV's settings.
You may find it under "picture size"->"native".

Since you have an NVIDIA card, download from the software center the "NVtv TV OUT" application. And check/try out the settings for overscan there.

Have you tried going to additional drivers to see if there is any recomended Nvidia driver to be enabled?
If yes, enable it and see if it helps.

If you open terminal and write
nvidia-settings

do you get any window with nvidia settings. If yes, look through them and try to find the overscan option.
