Hi,

Using GParted to install Zorin ultimate ONLY again & again.........

1. Firstly delete all previous partitions?

2. Then create swap 4GB, should it be FAT32, Primary/Extended/Logical & /swap?

3. Than root, 20GB, ext4, Primary/Extended/Logical & /root?

4. Rest 270GB Home, ext4 too, Primary/Extended/Logical & /home?

5. After creation of the 3 partitions, when Zorin DVD is inserted shall it automatically install on /root & /home & /swap or one has to set the install manually?

6. Since I don't watch cable on this pc how do I disable the NTSC TV Tuner card & Sony built in web cam. Use a usb Logitech Quick cam Pro 9000 on demand, aim is to conserve system resources....is there any thing as device manager in Zorin?

Hoping to hear from you.

Regards!

PS: Btw what exactly do you mean by Premium support?

1. These are the specs of my pc where I have installed Zorin earlier http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... ifications.

2. At the moment running W7, you can see in the screen shot the Device Mnager where the 2 arrows for web cam & TV tuner have been disabled. Image

3. root / 30 GB 1st ext4 fine........Primary, Logical or Extended?

4. Next /home ext4 approx 270 GB.......again Primary, Logical or Extended?

5. Lastly swap 4 GB since have 2 GB RAM @663MHz.........Primary, Logical or Extended?

6. Lastly after creating these will Zorin install automatically into root , /home & swap?

7. Drive size is 320 GB.

Thanks swarfendor437 for your detailed reply.

1. I don't watch cable TV even on windows so no need to install TV codecs. But would it hog system resources?

2. Logitech Quick Cam Pro 9000 works perfect once tried it way back on Ubuntu.

3. Any method to disable the built in webcam?

4. Yes I have tried the DVD live on this Sony machine. In Boot options optical drive is 1st & next HDD......

5. Graphics, Sound & wireless all work running Zorin 6 Ultimate.

6. I have both Logitech 9000 & CD 910.

7. Lastly thanks again for clarifying about partitions being primary, boot , extended....will the Zorin DVD install files automatically into root, home & swap?

8. What exactly do you imply by " you will get 'python'/'menu' crashes -" ?

Regards!

Didn't get this too........... " it should be Primary (but it is possible to chainload without making any partition primary - I just never got that 'advanced' in GNU/Linux."

You guys, members , mods like yourself, Wolfman & MD are geniuses........it's amazing.

You have solutions to most if not all.........your desktop, back ground settings etc are mind blowing.

6. I have both Logitech 9000 & CD 910.

Logitech CD910 is newer model of Logitech which is HD & with a stereo mic.

My fault.

3. Any method to disable the built in webcam?
You should be able to disable hardware in the BIOS - if not it might require some 'blacklisting' of hardware - madvinegar is the guy for that I think, or perhaps Wolfman might know.

How can one disable a hardware through BIOS............??

This should explain things a bit clearer for you:

Didn't really get it.......if its made Primary installing Windows OS later may create issues, so it's left as it is?

Hi Chris,

don't take offence but please stop drifting from one thing to another in the same thread, it is getting a bit confusing!!. Post seperate threads for seperate problems and we can concentrate our efforts on that one thing.

If you want multimedia support you should install the Medibuntu repo:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1852

The webcam won't switch on if not called upon so you don't have to worry about disabling it!.

When partitioning, make sure for ease of mind that Windows is installed first and you shouldn't have any problems:

Also:

And:

For DVB-T/S/C support (TV) see:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1661

If you want to have a chat about music etc, please by all means do so in the "Off Topic" section.

Please also take the time to read the post install guide:

No need to apologise Chris, it just makes things much clearer for everyone concerned, trying to deal with too many questions on different subject matter at once might cause chaos!!.

swarfendor thanks for your post.

1. The reason I quoted you about not making primary is that didn't understand why root / shouldn't be made primary.

2. I don't intent on installing Windows later.

3. Hypothetically even if I do shall install windows 1st & Zorin later.

Regards!
