A Few Questions About Zorin

Hi:
New to the forum...i have been running Linux Mint for a long time and like it very much but i checked out Zorin 4 (64 bit) on the live dvd and ran it for a few days and must say i am very impressed :D
I think i will likely be installing Zorin 5 when it is released...

A few questions:

1) Those of you who run Zorin with 64 bit, on the actual install, how much ram do you find that the system usually uses? (a range from lowest to highest)....

2) In Evolution Mail, I noticed on Zorin it is set up a bit different then in other distros in that the Headers of the new arriving e-mails are quite large in size...
Does anyone know how to reduce them so you can get more headers in a smaller space?

3) Anyone know the release date of Zorin 5? I know the web site said by the end of this month but i was just curious about that...

Thanks...and i hope someone will be able to answer my other questions...
Although, if i may also ask you:
1) I assume then you are running 32 bit Zorin 4 right now...what is the amount of memory you find that it uses? (average amount and maximum amount which would usually be when running something more intensive like say flash videos)...I know that 64 bit would probably use a bit more but at least i would get some idea...
It was hard to judge on the basis of the live dvd because live sessions tend to use more memory anyway...

2) You mentioned that Zorin 5 will have Gnome 3 without the Unity (glad to hear it won't have the Unity) but i know that Ubuntu 11.04, although it has Unity does not yet have Gnome 3 (they decided to wait until 11.10) so are the Zorin 5 developers adding that feature in themselves? (just curious)... ;)

To second the issue noted by Craig10x about the Evolution messages appearing to be double spaced:

After searching the web a bit I found a few references to theme based issues related to the line:

"GtkTreeView ::vertical-separator = 0"

in the GENERAL THEME SETTINGS of the theme style settings file.

The info suggest that the Zorin style might have set the "vertical-separator" value to a number > 0, which needs to be corrected.

I hope that whether this is the case, a resolution will be made available, as it is quite annoying.

Thank you.

I just downloaded & installed Zorin 6. I was so eager to see the new interface. I was shocked to discover that not only was the ability to control the mouse pointer withdrawn, but my only real complaint about Zorin 5 had not been resolved!
First of all the primary reason I stuck with Zorin 5 was, believe it or not, the ability to alter the color and size of the mouse pointer. Incredibly and very sadly, that functionality was omitted from Zorin 6.
Secondly, the only thing that i just hated about Zorin 5, the idiotic double spacing of email message listings in Evolution, was never resolved!!!

What a disappointment.

Hi,

the tweaking problems are a result of the Gnome 3 devs downgrading of the tools available in G3, sadly; there are no tools that I can find that will enable us to alter the mouse about from the pointer in Ubuntu Tweak. :(

Thank you for your reply regarding the mouse pointer issue.

Do you know why the double spaced message list issue in evolution was not resolved? Also, I apparently made a huge mistake when I agreed to allow Evolution to upgrade my mail storage format, as i it wiped out my folder structure.

Lastly, I was forced to find a fix that would allow me to continue using my existing USB devices (external hard drives & scanners).

Is this really an "upgrade?"

In zorin6 I think that the default mail client is thunderbird. You have installed evolution separately? Have you tried thunderbird?

I have tried Thunderbird. In fact, I have used it extensively for years. However, I purposefully installed Evolution because it is still required for some applications.

I am still hoping that someone can address the Zorin-centric double spaced message list in Evolution. Apparently it is a scheme related issue that is resolvable. It just hasn't been a priority.

Hopefully, someone will take an interest in this issue and resolve it.
