How to run old DOS programmes on Zorin

Currently use Windows XP to run old DOS programmes which use an old Basic Compiler built to run on DOS from the 1990's.

With the advent of MS Vista, 7 etal there is no possibility to run this programme directly as is possible under Windows XP. MS dropped this functionality from their operating systems. Do not want to use an emulator as I need processing speed for calculations.

Realise with Zorin OS it is possible to make the OS look like Windows XP but functionally can any of the Zorin OS versions run the old DOS programmes in a DOS window as XP does with the older DOS programmes ?

Your help / advice is much appreciated.

Thx, Neville

Have you tried running these programs via "wine"? I believe in the settings of wine there are options for the compatability of the programs to be run in XP, or win7 mode etc.

Otherwise you can download and install from software center the following programs and try them out:

Dos Emulator
DosBox Emulator
