Upgrading Google Chrome through Upgrade Manager

I used to be able to upgrade Google Chrome when the Update Manager showed an update available and all would work well.

When I upgraded to Google Chrome 20, Flash stopped working in GC. None of the fixes I read about on the Internet got Flash back. I finally resorted to reinstalling my system. I've tried this a number of times since, with the same results. Fortunately, somewhere along the way I learned about Remastersys. So I was able to burn a DVD when Google Chrome was working properly, so I could at least get back to a working environment whenever a new Google Chrome upgrade bombed Flash again. Have tried upgrading to the latest GC 21 with the same results--no Flash after the upgrade.

I've contacted Zorin Premium Support help and nothing they've suggested has worked. They suggested posting here.

I'm running an old (~10 yrs.) PC with 2GB RAM, plenty of hard disk space, Zorin 6.0 32-bit.

Here are my current settings as shown in chrome://plugins/. Flash works fine in GC.
Google Chrome 19.0.1084.56 (upgrading to later versions bombs Flash)

I also have Firefox 15.0.1 installed. Just installed again because I needed it to try to see what a friend was seeing in Firefox on a website.
Here are the about:plugins settings in Firefox:

9/11/2012
Shockwave Flash

File: libflashplayer.so
Version:
Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202

MIME Type Description Suffixes
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl

I just read a comment on this forum where someone said that Linux didn't have a Shockwave, yet you see what Firefox's about:plugins reports above: Shockwave Flash. Don't understand his comment.

Would appreciate being able to figure out how to upgrade Google Chrome and keep Flash working and how to get Flash working in Firefox.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Charles,

try installing "gnash" with a terminal:

sudo apt-get install gnash browser-plugin-gnash

and see if flash works afterwards.
