Should all apps & browsers be closed will updating?

When shall one know that system is upto date & requires no more updating?

Thanks,

Hi Chris,

yes; you should always close all apps when updating and the system will never stop updating as long as that particular distro is being supported, in the case of Zorin 6 Core Final, for 5 years!!.

There is probably a few different ways, but after running sudo apt-get update, I just run autoremove in the terminal. The last bit of data shows there are 0 packages to upgrade. (And you clean out any left-over unnecessary clutter.)

Hi,

the danger of the autoremove command is that it can take out depndencies which are needed by other apps!!, it is safer to use Bleachbit!!.

I use this all the time without problems. I have used Bleachbit with BAD results. Anyway, to each their own. This is just a simple way for the OP to see if there are any un-updated/upgraded packages. You can run autoremove and select "no" at the prompt if you don't want to run it.

Code:
vaio@VGC-LS1:~$  sudo apt-get autoremove
[sudo] password for vaio:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
vaio@VGC-LS1:~$
