Apart from the ability to address more than 3GB (?) of RAM ( not relevant in my case as I only have 2GB ) are there any differences/advantages in using the 64-bit version of Zorin 6 over the 32-bit version ? Thanks in advance for any info.

Zorin 6 has pae kernel enabled so even 32bit editions will be able to address more than 3GB of ram.

The OS hasn't crashed out on me yet but, as with 5.2, updating gets halfway and then hangs having borked the wireless connection. It needs restarting with an ethernet connection. If this continues then it's back to LM 13

Better late then never, Wolfman's advice of sudo apt-get update/upgrade did indeed solve the problem.
