Wirelss connected but no internet - wired working

Hi

I just upgraded to zorin 6.1, but strange issues is that even when the wireless shows connected, internet does not work. But when i connect my LAN it works fine.
THEN, once i disconnect the LAN (from the connection menu by clicking disconnect on wired) and reconnect wireless (in the same menu list) it works fine.
But if i rebbot i have to do this procedure again. Seems too strange to me.
Here is the output for
Code:
rfkill list

Code:
umayrz@umayrz-HP:~$ rfkill list

Hi Raz,

MV is the man for networking questions but I did find this:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1966633&page=5

Answer #48 seems to have done the trick although you might want to read the whole thread.

Do you have both the network cable and WiFi running at the same time?, if you do, only use one of them as they will cancel each other out!!.

Nope.. worked like a charm.. but yes my bro does have it on his Dell latitude which used an intel centrino 3000N wifi card - with zorin 6 on it. I use atheros card on mine

Hi,

not sure which version of the Aethros driver you have but you can try this:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2035902&page=2

Let us know if it helps.

If you have an atheros card (with a ath9k module) try this.
Open terminal and write:
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf

A blank document will open.
Copy and paste the following line inside it
options ath9k nohwcrypt=1

Save, close, reboot and see if it works.

To check your driver/module post the result of
Code:
sudo lshw -c network

From this command we will see your driver and we can force it to start at each startup (i.e. after reboots etc.).

hey guys

Waking up this thread again(was on long vaccations). @ madvin @ swarf - my atheros is working fine now (although it faces this issue sometimes) but right now i am troubleshooting my brother's Dell latitude E6420 with Intel Centrino 3000N wifi card.
I have to plug in the wired ethernet cable and kinda bring up the connection and then disconnect it after few minutes and then soft connect the wifi (from the menu) and its only then it works.
Are the above commands for my atheros card or would this work for the Intel Centrino 3000N. ?

Thanks

No the commands are not the same. Please post here the result of the following commands

When you boot into the laptop (and your wireless is not working) could you try two commands and let me know if your wireless springs to life?

First try
Code:
sudo modprobe iwlwifi

and if nothing happens try
Code:
sudo modprobe wl

Let me know if one of them worked. (I think the 2nd one is more likely to work).

If one of them works, I will tell you what to do to load your wireless at each startup.

No result for first command. The second command returned this:- FATAL: Module wl not found

ok, lets try something.
Open terminal and write
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/rc.local

A file will open.
Just above the last line that says "exit 0", add the following two lines:
Code:
modprobe -r iwlwifi
modprobe iwlwifi

Save, exit reboot and see if your wireless works OK at startup.

before i run these commands, my brother just updated me with what is happening.. The wifi popus up automatically after 10 minutes if he keeps the laptop on.which sounds strange.
I would try these commands and see what is happening. In case it matters, I have switched from my ISP DNS servers to Google DNS servers on my network. So all my clients( win and linux) get 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as DNS servers . Although rest of the clients work fine so this should not be an issue i guess?

These commands unload and load again your wifi driver automatically at startup. We do this to "force" your wireless to be triggered and wake up.

Since your wireless springs to life after 10 minutes, you could also try to write only one of the commands in rc.local. The one that loads your wifi, i.e.
Code:
modprobe iwlwifi

Try and let me know.

Tried putting in both the commands in the file and then by putting only modprobe iwlwifi. Stil does not wake up the wifi. :(

If you try in terminal the command
sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi

Does your wifi switch off?

And then with
sudo modprobe iwlwifi

Does it switch on again?

Forget about my last post. I think I found the solution. Do the following.
Open terminal and write
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/rc.local

A file will open.
Just above the last line that says "exit 0", add the following two lines:
Code:
modprobe -r iwldvm
modprobe iwldvm

No need to say that you will delete the previous two commands we have given (or just change the "iwlwifi" to "iwldvm" in the commands).
Save, exit reboot and see if your wireless works OK at startup.

As before, you could also try to write only one of the commands in rc.local. The one that loads your wifi, i.e.
Code:
modprobe iwldvm

Try and let me know.

Hey madvin.. tried these two as well. but m afraid it did'nt help.. looks like something is messed up with my wifi settings.... anewayz we further tried to note down what is actually happening. The wifi works precisely after about 15 minutes when we leave it on. strange!!... this happens even if we make a fresh install of zorin!!.. no idea what could be going wrong here..

Please open terminal and post back the result of
Code:
dmesg | grep iwlwifi

Maybe we can see in dmesg what is wrong.

Also, if you run on terminal
Code:
modprobe -r iwldvm
modprobe iwldvm

Does your wifi turn off and on again? (1st command turns it off and 2nd turns it on?)
