Hi leezhijiang, and Welcome to the Zorin forum. You will need to activate the 'input' method application here:

System Tools | System Settings | Keyboard:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

7.

You may need to add some keyboard settings to Chinese and be sure to delete all others. Don't forget to change your Language and Locale in Language settings and 'Apply System Wide'.

Hope this resolves your issue.

Seasons Greetings!

Thank you for your step by step tutorial. Finally I can type in Chinese now. I can see that you do the screenshot specially for me and I really appreciate it !

Hi,

in Zorin 7; the language support is more or less controlled by the keyboard settings manager in the system settings control panel, it is important to make sure that your keyboard format is set to "Chinese" or in your case; "Hong Kong" and then restart your PC.
Region & Language_043.jpg

System Settings > Hardware > Keyboard > Layout Settings > Formats.

You can also rid your PC of any English language packs by installing the package "localepurge" and select only "Chinese" and restart your PC, please read the warning below:

To install the package in a terminal:

Code:
sudo apt-get install localepurge

the app will start immediately after install and you must select only "Chinese"!!!!!.

"This is a script to recover disk space wasted for unneeded locales,
Gnome/KDE localizations and localized man pages. Depending on the
installation, it is possible to save some 200, 300, or even more
mega bytes of disk space dedicated for localization you will most
probably never have any use for. It is run automagically upon
completion of any apt installation actions.

Please note, that this tool is a hack which is *not* integrated with
Debian's package management system and therefore is not for the faint
of heart. This program interferes with the Debian package management
and does provoke strange, but usually harmless, behaviour of programs
related with apt/dpkg like dpkg-repack, reportbug, etc.
Responsibility for its usage and possible breakage of your system
therefore lies in the sysadmin's (your) hands.

Please definitely do abstain from reporting any such bugs blaming
localepurge if you break your system by using it. If you don't know
what you are doing and can't handle any resulting breakage on your own
then please simply don't use this package."

Hi,

I thought you wanted the whole system in Chinese??, okay; do the following if you only want Chinese language support:

open language support in the Systems Settings menu and click on "Install/Remove Languages" then put a tick in the box for Chinese.
Workspace 1_037.png

Click on "Apply Changes" and let it do its thing, you will be asked for your password:

Restart your PC afterwards!.

All you need to do after that is open Synaptic and type "libreoffice chinese" in search and add the 4 language packages which should be available to you.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

it will work on any Debian based system!, Ubuntu/Zorin/Mint etc.

Simply using the add /remove function of the language tool should install any language packs you require without the need for doing it via Synaptic, that said, you can also use Synaptic to install language packs as you can with the terminal!.

Still stuck

Sun Sep 22, 2013 5:05:05 am

Hi,

can you tell us exactly where you are stuck please!.

You do know that in Libreoffice; you must make changes in the default language settings: LibreOffice > Tools > Language > For All Text > More and make changes in that window. Also look at "Enhanced Language Support" in the same window!.
Options - Language Settings - Languages_001.jpg

Is that where you are stuck?.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I am using Zorin 9 and want to type in Korean. I see the option at the bottom to switch from EN to KO, but it's just really letting me type in english characters only. The keyboard layout map shows no Korean characters.

my input type is set to iBus.
