Slower internet download speeds

Just wondering why? no matter what Linux version i'm using ( i am using Zorin 6.1 at the moment), why are download speeds slower than Windows 7? For example and iv'e noticed it quite often, i'm downloading Mint 14 xfce at the moment via wireless and download speeds are from 1 MB/s - 1.2 MB/s with Windows 7.
When using Zorin or any other Linux distro, it's usually 1/4 the speed or even slower, around the 250 kbs. using the same server for downloading (Optusnet Australia)
Below is a pic downloading Mint 14 xfce on Windows 7..i can't get anywhere near those download speeds with Zorin or any other Linux distro.



I'm still sticking to Zorin but when it comes to downloading larger files, Windows 7 seems best.

Just for our info can you please post back the results of the following commands? You may have an older driver installed and you may have to upgrade to a newer one.

Thanks for your reply.. iv'e done what you have asked me to do (not that i understand it ) but below are the results.

I have cable broadband which comes through my Foxtel connection into a modem and it's then wireless throughout my house. As i posted, i can get faster download speeds using Windows, as far as surfing the net goes, Windows and Linux seem on par and i can't see much difference in speeds opening web sites or forums such as this one.
Here is the other example, i'm downloading the same Mint 14 xfce on Zorin 6.1 and below is a pic of the speed i'm getting, compare that to my first post using Windows 7. Please note that both downloads were done at roughly the same time of day, using the same connection ( Motorola Wireless cable modem Gateway SBG 900 and netgear wireless usb adapter). Also, the little blue light on the Netgear usb adapter flashes with any Linux distro but with Windows it's a constant steady blue light.

Yes that was all of it..
Now iv'e typed in what you have asked and this is what i get...

I have just noticed from some of the results above that you must be using a USB wireless card/dongle (or your wireless card connects via the USB bus).
I have asked in my post for the results of
lsusb
Could you please post that as well (copy/paste here the result).
