[MOVED] System Lockiing up for no reason

I've had the similar problem w/ 6.1 on 2 boxes.
Both PCs have AMD 64 CPUs.
It stops and locks up. It won't clear, even if left on for several hours.
I notice it while browsing w/ Firefox, especially if I have YouTube running.
Ctrl-Alt-Del gives a weak beep sometimes, sometimes weak sound from YouTube, nothing else.
I have to cut power.

Then if I boot too soon after power cutting, the desktop doesn't fully come on.
The desktop will have only background and the 3 normal icons. No panels.
I do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and starts to quit.
Then instead of quitting, it gives me an unusual login prompt. Strange.
And then the desktop comes up normal. Weird.

I've never had this issue with other Linux distros, Ubuntu (Breezy - Lucid), and others.

Suggestions.
