Visual Effects?

i downloaded the free version and i cant find anywhere on how to activate the visual effects. ive played with compiz and it doesnt seem to work at all with anything, i cant even get the "3d cube" effect to work at all. Do i have to get the premium versions ie ultimate edition in order to activate the effects? btw im a noob at linux and i have it duel booted with windows 7.

i believe its a Intel sandy bridge gpu with Intel HD mobile graphics.

The "free" version will work. Make sure you have it enabled from System / Preferences / Appearance. Go to the Visual Effects tab and check EXTRA.

Then go to System / Preferences and select CompizConfig Settings Manager.
