Wireless connection problem

I have Zorin OS 6 on a live USB flash drive. It loaded fine, and it detected my wireless network, but it won't connect, even though I have entered the correct password. The network security is WEP in Windows, but there are three different WEP options in Zorin. Neither "WEP 40/128-bit Key" nor WEP 128-bit Passphrase" works, and Dynamic WEP presents a variety of new options that mean nothing to me.

What do I need to do to get past this obstacle?

Thanks for your advice. I'm running into several problems.

First, when I try to edit the wireless network, the 'save' button greys out as soon as I start entering the BSSID. How can I edit it if I can't save changes?

Second, when I ran the sudo ifconfig command, I got back three different entries: eth0, lo, and wlan0. Which is the one I want? (As you have already guessed, you're dealing with a complete newbie here).

Third, in the IPv4 connection settings tab there is no 'Use IPv4 to make connection' option, though there is on that says 'Require IPv4 addressing for this connection to complete,' which sounds rather different. Should I check it?

Finally, what is madvinegar? When will it arrive?

Solved one problem: the BSSID was printed without colons between the hex numerals on the side of my router. When I added the colons, I was able to save. Weirdly, the connection opened before I even saved the change, and I am now connected.

I hope the problem with stay solved. Does it matter that I'm using the Live USB option instead of having Zorin installed on my laptop?

Unless you create a live USB with persistent space...(?)

Back again. The connection was fine until I rebooted. Now it won't connect again, even though I enter the same information that worked before. Very annoying!

I used Unetbootin to create the Live USB. Evidently that does not have persistent space, since my power settings do not persist from session to session (I really don't want my screen to go dim after 10 seconds of inactivity).

I'd be grateful for any advice. I would really like to be able to use Zorin as a reliable Windows alternative, but unless I can reliably access the internet, I can't use it. Thanks!

Even if it is not a driver problem, (it is a settings problem) plus you are working on a live USB (and not on a installed OS), kindly post back the results of the following commands.
Code:
lspci -nn
sudo lshw -c network
sudo rfkill list all

So, just to understand, your wireless works just fine, but you cannot connect to your wireless network?

Go to network manager > network settings and set the ipv4 and ipv6 settings (method) in automatic dhcp.
Or delete your wireless network from the network settings and try to connect again.

Okay, that worked, at least for now. I'm hoping it'll still work when I boot up again. Thanks!
