Hi Guys
Not a problem with Zorin but can you help?

Look i am trying to clone the whole HDD of Zorin, but i think i am doing somethig wrong.
Because when i try to then boot the cloned drive nothing happens.

This is what i have done so far:-
dd if=/dev/sdb1 of=/dev/sda1

runs fine to the end, No issues
But cannot then boot the cloned drive.

What am i missing?

Many Thanks for your advice Auldyin.
However this dos not do what i am looking for - although it seems to backup well enough but dos not clone the HDD as i had hoped

My indented gold is to clone the HDD so that if i connect it up, it will boot from this drive auto bring up my OS.

I am not sure if this is possible but i need to be able to bring this drive back on line in the eventuality of a problem with as little fus as possible.
Is this not possible?

And what Auldyin suggested will work also for cloning.

But in your case, And if I read your ( question) right, your actually trying to create a > Mirror < of Zorin OS on a second drive.
The mirrored drive would be configured to auto boot,if the primary fails.

Mirroring is like a clone, but is dynamic and real time using two hard drives set up as a RAID 1.

Or ...! You did not detach the old drive before booting?

Or ... you could try clonezilla which asks if you want to copy the boot sector of the drive (that will contain the GRUB) to the new one!

You may also need to run fsck first then run dpkg to make sure it matches the system you have put the new drive in if this is to save time doing a fresh install on a different machine!

My extreme thanks to all who replied
I am now very happy, did the reading, system now cloned after following your suggestions and using Clonezill it did the job.
This product is highly recommended.

Many Thanks Guys
