Recent newbie to Zorin. Really happy with the OS. Very impressed. I have made it the OS on my main pc having got fed up with W7.

Problem I have is that the wireless seems to perform intermittently. Not got a really fast connection but usually around 4 to 5mb. Used to be great on Zorin but now it seems to slow to a crawl for some periods with ne real reason. When I speed check it it registers under 1mb but will spike to over 5mb but then records under 1mb as the speed. When I try the same on W7 it records a consistent 4mb speed. I have reset router and restarted pc etc. Sometimes this works other times it merely stays the same.

Was going to just re-install Zorin but want to avoid this as I will just have to got through downloading all the additional programs etc I have added since I started. Anyone come across a similar problem.

Acer Aspire 6930Z - 3mb ram is the model.

Open terminal and write:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf

A blank document will open.
Copy and paste the following line inside it

options ath9k nohwcrypt=1

Press "Save" to save the file, close it, reboot and see if it works.

Sorry but that seems to have made it worse.

My speed is now madly fluctuating. Speed test jump from 0.5 to 3.5 and flicker in between.

On another note - when I close or reboot I seem to have a program which is still running. I have closed everything down prior to rebooting. It does not tell me what program is not closing...

OK so after leaving it on for a while the wireless seems to have settled down.

Now I keep getting told I have an 85kb update that needs to be done. I go into the install updates. It says there is this update - it shows me nothing and it will not install. It does eventually go away if there are other updates to install but it will reappear later.

Still can't find out which Unknown program is not closing - it says not responding when you try to restart but I cannot trace it.

The solution I told you is the fix that we use to stop the interminent operation of wireless cards that use ath9k as a driver.
I am glad to hear that your wireless settled down.
