With Skype running properly for chat and speakers, I cannot get the microphone to work.
Anyone solved this?
Instal is Zorin 6 on an ASUS Aspire One D255. 1Gb RAM Atom @ 1.66Hz x 2

I have the solution for you. (I suppose you mean ACER aspire - not Asus Aspire)
Install "pulse audio volume control" from software center.
Once installed open it and navigate to the tab that says "INPUT".

You will see two volume bars that move simultaneously. One is for the left channel and the other for the right channel.
Press the little icon that has a small lock on it so as to unlock the two bars from moving simultaneously. Now the bars can be moved separately.
Set one of the bars to zero (0) i.e. the left channel bar, and set the other bar i.e. the right channel bar, to maximum volume.

Close pulse audio volume control, and test if your mic is now working.

Hey Mad,
A quick reply - politeness in pointing out my dumb errors - a correct solution - accurately described for the non-techie..
This has not been my previous experience on other forums.
Thank you very much; problem solved! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
