HDMI Audio

Hi everyone,

I'm running Zorin on the Dell XPS One 27. I have an amp connected to the HDMI socket on the back of the machine. When I am in Windows 8, I can just turn on the AMP, and the sound of whatever it is I'm playing just starts coming out of my big speakers. I don't know how to get this working on Zorin/Ubuntu though. When I turn on the amp, I still only see the single analogue stereo audio hardware in the audio settings.

Any ideas how I activate the audio output? I see the following dmesg output when turning on the AMP:

Code:
[13894.378784] HDMI hot plug event: Codec=3 Pin=5 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1
[13894.378833] HDMI status: Codec=3 Pin=5 Presence_Detect=1 ELD_Valid=1

Okay, when the system is running Windows, turning on the Amp will redirect audio to it, and activate the TV as a second monitor.

If I leave the amp turned on and turn on the computer (from being off), Zorin has graphics issues and the resolution of the computer screen is set to 1920x1080 rather than 2560x1440 which the panel runs at. Also, the HDMI audio device still is not an option in the audio settings. Once the amp has been turned on, I have to completely shut down the PC, turn off the amp, and turn the PC back on, in order to restore full graphics functionality.

Which part are you referring to with regards to the issue of getting HDMI audio output working?

Now this is interesting... I have tried a number of different distros over the last few days, and I almost jumped out of my skin when selecting HDMI audio output worked on the OpenSUSE KDE Live CD! That's right.. OpenSUSE was able to send the sound out of my HDMI port! So it is possible... Hmmm.

Hi,

I meant this bit:

"Sound:

After you have added the Medibuntu Repo, I suggest you install the following packages via a terminal for good sound/playback:

sudo apt-get install libsox-fmt-all non-free-codecs faac flac paman

If you want to install a slighty better sound manager than the normal Ubuntu one, install the package "paman". You will find paman (Pulse Audio Manager) under the sound and video menu. Make a link on your panel or desktop!!."

In the sound manager you must make sure that the correct hardware is being addressed otherwise it won't work with HDMI!!.

Hope that makes sense.
