Issues Installing Zorin OS 6.2 Ultimate

So I bought Zoring OS 6.2 Ultimate cd's from the site and they just arrived the other day so I installed the 32bit OS on my cousins laptop *a toshiba satellite amd quad core and radeon graphics* and that installed without a hitch so I went to install it on my Asus G51jx gaming laptop with an Intel® Core™ i7 720QM/620M Processor 8G DDR3 1333 Ram and NVIDIA® GeForce® GTS 360M 1GB GDDR5 VRAM Graphics more info here http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/G51Jx/#specifications but for some reason the installer just keeps glitching out massively every time I try to install either disk "32bit or 64bit" and here are some screens from various install options.

The first is the Live Cd option or 1st option.

and the Safe Mode aka Low Graphics or 2nd option.

and when I select the first option after it says that I think it says something like run in low graphics this time. Then it says wait a minute and then this.
Image

and finally when I just try the install right off the bat or the 4th option I think, it does this.

Note at both the 1st and 4th option sit at the screen forever and never chages.

Hopefully someone can help me with this issue I cant figure out why it does this.

Hi,

I had a similar problem and chose to install direct, if that doesn't work for you, did you try "Safe Mode" which is where I think it crashes with the low graphics warning and just gets stuck!!. Does it boot at all in any mode??.

So I got the OS installed on the hard drive thanks to swarfs help.. Then I booted up for the first time regular and it opens a terminal after a glitch screen "never hitting the zorin loading screen" that just says Zorin OS 6 "computer name" then "computername login" right under it... I had one sucessful boot into regular through the recovery mode and managed to get on but then i updated the graphics drivers to try to get the compiz to stop crashing and get rid of the glitches but now neither do anything but the terminal.

Thank you all very much for the help so far.

Hi,

boot into recovery mode and activate the network then run "dpkg" and reboot with control-alt-delete and see if things improve, see this guide:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2247

(You need a network cable for the above to work!)

If you have an Nvidia card, see this guide:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2490

Let us know if this helps.

Ok so I applied both fix's but it still boots into the terminal screen to command the os instead of the regular os like when you hit alt+f5 or something like that in the regular os desktop... I cant figure out why it just keeps booting me into the terminal instead of the OS.

Also when I looked at my graphics it says that they are not installed on the settings but on the driver update thing it says I have the newest recommended one installed

Hi,

try adding these commands via the root shell in recovery mode:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

Then restart with Ctrl+Alt+Del and see if it helps.

Activate Network before dropping to root shell.

Ok sorry for the long wait and I figured out that Zorin has a major issue with Nvidia based cards in which the program it runs on *Compiz* constantly crash's when you do ever get into the normal operating system *completly random mind you* and I have installed the latest drivers for the Nvidia card in the operating system and it says its running the newest drivers but have not been able to get on and do it through the shell due to no internet at home..

But anyway thank you guys for the help so far but hopefully I can get past this problem because I have 2 systems I would like to run it but both *with Nvidia cards have the Exact same issues* note these are far diffrent cards in both year and size.

Hi,

the issue with Nvidia cards is known, I have one myself.

Did you read this:

Ok so I finaly got around to trying all your fix's and needless to say it is still sending me to the shell instead of the regular OS with the t1-5 options or whatever.. The only fix I cant do is the beta drivers installation because I cant get into regular OS...

Anyways thanks for your help but ill just probably switch back to windows till some actual support on the OS side is established.

Actually i hate to be the wet sock here but Sabayon/Gentoo has support for Optimus Nvidia so it "may not" be an Nvidia issue.
