desktop icons

I have tried zorin 6.2 in windows mode. I figured out how to download the built in programs for the system which appears in the MENU(start menu in xp). What I cannot figure out is how to move the MENU items onto the desktop, and how to download and install ANY program that is NOT in the DOWNLOAD center and again how to move the resulting icons onto the desktop. In windows mode the behavior is only partially like xp. When I download a program unlike xp the program does NOT leave a desktop icon AND a menu icon at the same time. I need details in a step format please. My goal is to make my ZORIN desktop mimic XP as much as possible even importing wall paper from a third party site which I also need help with. NOOBSLAB has wall papers to my liking. Zorins are limited. Any and all help in simple instructions are welcome. [email deleted - unless you like spam! :mrgreen: ]
