Nothing on screen except desktop background. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I am a Noob to Linux and am having issues. I am currently running Zorin OS 6.1 and have been updating it regularly for about 2 months. I have had the gnomenu applet/task manager crash and now everything has started going wrong. I have tried to relaunch the applet with no result, and have tried switching to Cairo dock, in the form of GLX-Dock to no avail. Since I have loaded GLX-dock with the ubuntu software centre I have lost everything on my screen except the background. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

try this guide about updating first, run "dpkg" as described with a network cable, you must activate "Network" before you run "dpkg".
