Weird background after installation

So I am a new Linux user and this seemed the "best" way to go when coming form a long history of using Windows.

Uploading a picture of the desktop so you can actually see what I am talking about. It's blocky and unreadable. I thought that it might be a display setting but I can't read the screen to attempt adjusting the settings. I have another pc runnign win 7 (for gaming) on the same screen and it works just fine.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

i was able to get it figured out after browsing a few other forums, but i will make not of how to post incase i encounter any more errors, lookin sharp now!
