I had the same problem, and I solved it using "jDownloader" linux version.

The instalation is not difficult if you follow this guide:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jd-team/jdownloader
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install jdownloader

Hi David,

what web browser are you using??. The new FireFox 20.0 has excellent features to view downloads!!.

Hi Swarf,

if that is the case then he can install "Uget" or "Steadyflow" and last but not least; "Fatrat" directly from the repo's, if he just wants to see what is happening with his downloads, then the download viewer in FF is enough!!.
