[MOVED] fading windows in/out...?

Hi,

i'm interested in trying to 'fade' windows in/out in zorin os core - at the moment the windows get 'sucked' down into their thumbnails, and in full screen get 'shuffled' in quite a jarring way when moving between them...i'd like the appearance/disappearance of the windows to be 'softer', more gentle... they don't have to get bigger or smaller, i'd just like them to appear and disappear more 'sensually'...

any info/advice on how i might approach this appreciated,

steve.

Hi,

what graphics card do you have and did you install any drivers using the "Additional Drivers Tool" in the System Settings menu??.

err, not sure what graphics card i have - a toshiba laptop with an intel core i3 is all i can find info about - 2.30ghz...

i haven't installed any additional drivers...

i found out how to stop the 'jarring' movement in compiz settings - it was called 'dodge' , but the windows now just appear/disappear without fading in or out - i played with fade numbers in the compiz settings, but it doesn't seem to have changed anything...

Hi,

paste the following command in a terminal and paste the output here, of real interest is "VGA compatible controller":

Code:
lspci

You should get something like this:
Code:
wolfman@fred:~$ lspci
00:00.0 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation MCP61 Memory Controller (rev a1)
00:01.0 ISA bridge: NVIDIA Corporation MCP61 LPC Bridge (rev a2)

02:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1)

Once we establish what drivers you might need, we can work on the problem. If you find out you have an Nvidia card, see this link:

Hi steeve,

you have an Intel graphics card so the drivers are automatically installed in Zorin 6.3. ("00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)")

Try updating using the "dpkg" method per this guide and let us know what happens:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2247

For problems with Intel graphics cards, you would be better off looking on the Intel forum:

https://01.org/linuxgraphics/forums/general-discussion

Are all the plugins for installed Compiz?. Check in Synaptic by typing Compiz and see what plugin packages are installed.

Let us know what happens.

Just had a look at your earlier posts - you should not really be running Zorin 6.x any more:
