Video conferencing

Hi all !

I am brand new to Linux having just installed Zorin 7 a few days ago. (I had a Windows 7 computer crash and recovery disk was no help so I called a computer tech and he recommended Linux. Seemed like a good idea, besides I was also getting tired of how very slow Windows could get sometimes :)

Anyhow, does anyone know if "Vsee" video conference software can be made to work on Linux ?

Vsee worked really really good, but they don't have a Linux version as far as I know.

If not, I need to find a simular program that works in Linux as well as being able to work in Windows and preferrably even Android.

Vsee features I need to find in another program:

1.) Stays connected, and has smooth unchoppy video and audio.
2.) Can video chat with at least 2 other computers at the same time (or more)
3.) Can be set up so a video chat request will automatically be answered and session started.
4.) Has a free version of their service.
5.) At least has a version for both Linux (Zorin compatible version) and Windows, and preferrably also Android.

Thanks in advance for any ideas !

Hi,

according to 2 feedbacks at WineHQ, it is "garbage"!!. (Vsee will only work under Linux using the "Wine" app installer!)

There is Ekiga:

And/Or Skype which are both in the software center!!. (Assuming you have the Medibuntu repository set up, see post install guide: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2054 )

Or you can try to use ooVoo.
Install it using Wine. It has been reported that it works just fine in linux via Wine.

When they use the term "garbage", I guess that means it does not work well on Linux thru "Wine" ?

Vsee worked really really good on windows, it's a shame if it won't work good on Linux.

I'll have to check out Ekiga, I tried Skype about a year ago and it didn't work well at all.

I have to educate myself on thr various Linux terms like "repository", ect. as I am very new to Linux :)

Thanks, I was aware of oovoo but had not tried it yet, it might be one possibility.

I am also trying to see if any of the following web based video conferencing sites might fit what features I need like Vsee had -

Thanks for the caution, I definitely prefer programs that don't take hours of tweaking to try to get to work :)

(I don't mind occasionally messing with an hour of tweaking to install something, but it can get old fast if it happens a lot and takes hours :)

I tried skype about a year ago and it did not work well at all back then when I tried it.

swarfendor437 wrote:I would avoid Ekiga if your router does not support port-forwarding - I was trying to get away from Skype but not had much joy at configuring Ekiga to work in Windows. I would go with Skype (but you have to pay for conferencing/more than two people connecting at once) or madvinegars ooVoo - I will have to look into this! :D

I can give skype another try to see if it works better now, if it does that could be ok for now but ultimately I'm looking for a program that can allow for more than one connection without a subscription fee. (I think Vsee allowed videoconferencing with up to 4 other computers as part of their free version)
